Mindful Meditation

The definition of the word mindfulness is to be fully present, in the moment without judgment.

This is a lot easier said than done, and to be mindful all the time is not realistic, so the idea is to create a practice.  To be fully present is the antidote to anxiety, which is what brings many people to therapy initially:  anxiety is almost always about what has happened or what will happen, so to bring oneself into the moment allays the dread for the future and the regrets and rumination about the past.  I like the idea of “beginner’s mind,” which is something we can learn by hanging around little kids:  to see the world as if for the first time, to look around you and really take in what is there, even though you may

be looking at something you see every day.

Individual Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy can empower you to become more present and aware of your inner strengths, enabling you to fully embrace and enjoy your life.

I believe the relationship between my client and me is the most important component of individual psychotherapy, regardless of presenting issues.  Accordingly, I work hard to establish an atmosphere of safety and comfort.

Group Therapy

Group therapy provides support by allowing members to explore issues deeply with the help of others who may provide new perspectives from their own experiences. Group members may also try new behaviors and get feedback in a safe, supportive environment.

Couples Therapy

Would you rather be right or be happy?  The five most important words in a relationship are:  “You were right; I’m sorry.”

My goal in working with couples is to help them learn to listen deeply to each other and to develop skills to work through differences and deepen their intimacy.
